KARACHI- World Kidney Day observed on Thursday at Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) to spread an awareness regarding growing ailments of kidney disorders particularly among children. Medical experts have underlined the importance of creating awareness in the society towards the growing ailments of kidney disorders particularly among children. On the occasion, the medical experts quoted international statistics and predicted an increase of 17 per cent over next decades of chronic kidney diseases, a phenomenon which has already been declared as a major public health issue by the World Health Organisation (WHO). The topic of this year’s edition of World Kidney Day was “Kidney diseases and children; act early to prevent it”. The nephrologists and urologists pointed out that 10 per cent of world population is facing some forms of kidney disorders which underscore the urgent need to raise awareness about the dangers of the disease down the road ahead. Kidney diseases affected millions of people globally including children but, unfortunately, kidney disease of children were nonspecific; therefore, there was always a risk that the kidney related problems might remain undiagnosed in children, they said. The speakers urged the civil society, health decision makers and media professionals to come forward and supplement the efforts to tackle kidney related issues.
