ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday directed Additional Attorney General Muhammad Waqar Rana, to submit details regarding the execution of census in the country and adjourned the hearing till November 18.
A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Mian Saqib Nisar comprising Justice Maqbool Baqar and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain heard the suo motu notice case regarding delay in holding of census in the country.
During the course of proceedings, Director General of Statistics Division, Asif Bajwa, appeared before the court and informed that the division had started preparation for holding the census in the country and different steps would be taken during next three months in this regard.
Justice Saqib Nisar asked the director general to inform the court about the ground realities in details and remarked that census should be held on emergency basis.
Asif Bajwa stated that the Statistics Division was fully prepared to hold the census, but military officials were not available. He said that objections would be made if census would be held without the involvement of army.
He said that the Statistics Division had to reject results of 1992 and 2011 census as they were held without army involvement.
He said that 165,000 teachers would be trained in this regard, adding that the teachers’ training would start after availability of manpower by the military.
The court asked the additional attorney general to inform the court about the availability of manpower by military after receiving information from the department concerned.
The court sought details regarding holding of census in the country and adjourned hearing of the case till November 18.
